FROM PROCRASTINATION TO PRODUCTIVITY: TIPS TO GETTING THINGS DONE

We all struggle with procrastination at certain points in our lives. It could be postponing a project deadline, putting off studying for a test, delaying an appointment, or even hesitating to make a meal. Many people who procrastinate do so because they are confident that they can achieve that task at the last minute. Unfortunately, procrastination is a major hindrance to productivity, however, boosting productivity through self-discipline is the only way out. This article seeks to share simple productivity hacks that you can employ, so read till the end to find out how to stay focused and productive.

The tips for getting things done are:

1. Prioritize

Some tasks are more important than others, while some are more urgent than others. You should write down a list of tasks, starting with the most urgent and important then, get those done first.

2. Breakdown Tasks

Many times, people procrastinate because the task, whether big or little, seems overwhelming and they do not know where to begin. To solve this problem, you need to break down all tasks into smaller tasks that you can manage. This way, you find the tasks easier to handle.

3. Use a To-do List

Having a To-do list is very important because it makes it easy to keep track of what you have done and what you are yet to do. You can have a to-do list for every month, every week, and every day. You should create your lists beforehand, that way, you have a mental picture of what to do the following day, week, or month. You can also update the list as time progresses.

4. Set Realistic Deadlines

Every task should have a deadline either created by you or an authority other than you. When there is a deadline set by an authority other than yourself, you should create an earlier deadline, so that you can start working on the project earlier than you ordinarily would have.

Setting deadlines can create a sense of urgency and motivate you to perform some tasks. However, the deadline must not be too tight but realistic because setting tight deadlines can lead to more stress and anxiety.

5. Have an Accountability Partner

Having someone who holds you accountable by checking in on you frequently to ensure that you carry out tasks as you intended, can help you feel responsible and help you stay on track. You need to choose a caring and willing person who is not afraid to scold you if you default.

6. Reward Yourself

When you reward yourself after a job well done, you are motivating yourself to be more effective in handling tasks. You should reward yourself after accomplishing any goal you've set out for yourself. The reward can range from a piece of chocolate to a weekend vacation. However, your reward should be proportionate to the goal achieved.

Conclusion

Procrastination is a thief of success. To be able to achieve your goals without stress, you must avoid putting off things for later by applying discipline in your efforts. By prioritizing, breaking tasks into smaller and manageable bits, having a to-do list, setting realistic deadlines, having an accountability partner, and celebrating your successes, you will find it easier to get things done at the right time.
